bringing life to luxury brands
STEM is an award-winning creative advertising and graphic design studio characterized by artistry and its passion for strategic messaging. STEM gives decisive advantage to its clients by communicating with audiences on the higher ground of creative clarity and integrity. We craft experience that aggressively engages, empowers and sustains the process of brand discovery.
Founded in 2001, STEM is under the direction of Todd Perlee, Art Center graduate and the creative director of Governors Towne Club, the South's finest private club community.
STEM's portfolio represents a continued exploration of the Modernist axiom of the early 20th century expressed by Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, and the Bauhaus, German institute of design: form follows function. "Transparency in design" is the guiding principle of STEM and the impetus for the Creative Revolution of the sixties founded by the legendary copywriter Bill Bernbach, Doyle Dane Bernbach New York.
Bernbach's impact on STEM and 20th century pop culture is profound. In 1959, Bernbach developed the rollout campaign for a small import from Germany nicknamed the “beetle”. The Volkswagon campaign is ranked by Ad Age Magazine as the greatest of all time and considered to be the cornerstone of modern advertising. Bernbach's work literally transformed Madison Avenue overnight and initiated a global societal transition from consumer hunter-gatherers to the elegant brand culture we experience today.
